Once upon a time, I had a lot of plans for a new house. Then we moved into the house. The projects were everywhere. It took a lot longer to get them done than I thought. For instance, this gallery wall. I knew I wanted to hang a grouping of botanical prints in my front living room. However, It took me forever to find the right frames and actually hang them.
My front room looked like a blank canvas for a long time. I didn’t mind because I like clean and simple. Over time, I knew I had to get something on the walls. When I was working on my son’s Star Wars room, I came across Home James Art. She had the perfect patent prints for his bedroom. When I came to pick them up, Jo also has some lovely botanical prints. I knew they were perfect for my front room.
I now had the perfect prints and no frames. I started to look everywhere for something brass or gold. I needed six of the frames. Everything was getting really pricey and over budget. I then decided I would have to find something in any color and just spray paint them. IKEA always has affordable frames. I wanted the frame to be thinner and dainty for an elegant look. I found thesein black and knew I could make them work. The best part of all, they were only $4.99 each. Yes, those are pumpkins on the table all the way back from the fall (told you this took forever to complete). Those are also my super trendy mom leopard house shoes. Be jealous people, be very jealous of this mom uniform.
When I got them home, I went straight to priming the frames with my KILZprimer. You can see my full spray painting tutorial here. I made sure to let them dry for a couple hours. Then, I used my favorite brass spray paint. I have used this color all over my house. It really is the perfect brassy gold color.
I put my new botanical prints back in the frames, once they had dried. Then, I sat them on the couch, right below where they would be hung. That is where they sat for months, months people! I don’t know why I never got around to hanging them sooner. They were done enough and I had a million other things to do, apparently.
Then my son got his tonsils out. I was home playing nurse for weeks. In between taking care of him, I was finally able to get these hung. I guess the trick is being stuck inside, for days at a time, to get anything done around here. I really like how they look, especially for the price. No more blank wall in this room. However, the other side of this room still needs chairs and a rug. I hope to show you more at the Joyful Spring Home Tour in March!

Buying a new house is no joke! After moving all your stuff, then comes blinds, yard, and so many other projects. It really never ends. We have got so much done in the short 3 weeks we have lived here. We finally got shutters and shades. I just had to go ahead and get my curtain rod and curtains hung too!
I have had this brass curtain rodfor months. It has been waiting for it’s time to shine. I knew when I saw it, it would be perfect. The rod looks even better than I thought it would and it coordinates great with our cabinet hardware. I also got the matching clip rings. Brass is making a comeback people! Get on board. You won’t be disappointed.
I wanted neutral curtains that didn’t stand out but made an elegant statement. The first thing that came to mind was pleats. I really wanted triple pleated curtains that were a white linen. I envisioned the perfect curtain and that definitely came with a price tag. Sighhhhhh. Curtains can be so expensive, especially with pleats. That hefty price tag was not in the budget, so I came up with a plan B. IKEA came to the rescue with the look I wanted without the price tag.
The Ritva curtains from IKEA are so versatile and can be hung multiple ways. One way is with pleat hooks. YAY! No need to add pleater tape. These curtains have a rod pocket, tabs, and pleater tabs. They come in 118-inch length with two panels of only $34.99. You really can not beat that price. I made this quick video to show you how to add pleater hooks to your curtain. I wanted three pleats. So, I got four prong pleater hooks. If you do not want that many pleats, you can get two prong pleater hooks. The package comes with a single pleat hook for each end of your curtain. This will help your curtain panel hang properly on the ends and look finished.
Just like that, you have pleated curtains for a very affordable price. One small project done….723,456,000 to go….

Olioboard. My current obsession. Since I’m in the middle of building a house; my mind is going crazy with design and decorating ideas. I had all these ideas of how I wanted to style a certain room in the new house. Some things I wasn’t positive about meshing together. Then I found Olioboard. It is the coolest website ever (No I am not being paid or compensated for this). I just really love the mood board creation trend. I have seen people post pictures of mood boards they have created. I personally have never tried it out. I thought it would be a learning curve. Not only that, but I figured you can’t really get a good idea about what it would look like. I mean there is no way they would have all the things that I would want to use. WRONG! I was totally blown away by how easy it was to get started. Bonus, is that all you need is an email and it is totally free. Also, there are so many selections and categories to choose from. I was able to pull together almost everything I was envisioning for my new living room. As you can see in the picture below, I have some big plans. Now the items you drag onto your board have a link with a price and name of where you can buy that exact item. I am not saying I will use these exact pieces I put on my board. However, I will find very similar things that have the same feel or look. I am so happy that I found this place to toy with all my ideas for the new house. I can save each room or board and create a new one. I can also save them to my computer as a jpeg.
One of the downsides I found is the kitchen and bathroom options. I was hoping I could find cabinet choices, tile, countertops, flooring, and other stuff to really design the kitchen and bathroom. Obviously, it is free so there is only so much you can get with that. I know there are plenty of other programs you can pay for that allow all those options. It is just hard to create a mood board for a kitchen without cabinets, flooring, and countertop options.
I am still very happy that I can put together all my decor options for most of the rooms in the new house. There is even lighting options to add along with pillows, drapes, art, lamps, and more. I’m telling you , it is so fun and handy! Go check out Olioboard and let the designing begin
Below is a source list. Now some of these items are ridiculously pricey. I would never in a million years spend that kind of money on certain things. However, there are plenty of similar items like these at Home Goods, T.J. Maxx, Hobby Lobby, and etc. I will definitely be finding the less expensive versions of some of these items.

I love country french furniture. I found this table on a local yard sale page. When I showed up there were two of these tables. Why I didn’t end up buying both of them is still beyond me. That was dumb. The lady selling them told me this big long story about how they were from Germany (who really knows). One of the tables was a little off balanced so I took the one that stood firm on all four legs. I know I should have bought them both, but I didn’t (it still keeps me up at night, haha).
Surprise, I didn’t use chalk paint OR spray paint. I just busted out some good ole latex paint and went to town with a paint brush. I had some white latex paint laying around and I didn’t want to have to buy anything. I’m not sure what the color was but it wasn’t a bright white.It was a creamy yellow white. I didn’t prime the table first. I was going to sand and distress the table anyway to have some black and wood show through. I did put on two coats of paint. I was surprised the brush marks didn’t show up more. I do think it is important to invest in a nice paint brush. If you take care of it; then it will last forever. After each use rinse the brush out well and form the bristles back to the way they go.
After both coats of paint had dried for 24 hours; it was time to distress. Distress is a fancy word for using sand paper to let the wood or the base layer show through. I just randomly pick places and edges to sand. Once I got it all distressed, I put a quick coat of polyurethane on to seal it.
Now, this table has two beautiful beveled glass pieces that fit into it. I obviously took those out while I was painting. Once the poly was all dry I bought it back into the house and used it as a coffee table. I am sad to say that I cracked a corner of the glass that fits into the table. Moral of the story; do not be lazy. I was using the table as a ladder to change the light bulb in the living room. Well, there my new little table was just underneath the light, in the perfect spot. I thought I could just quickly step on top of it and not put weight on the glass, only the outer wood. Well , when you change a light bulb, it is hard to keep your balance. I stepped slightly onto the glass and cracked a small part ;(. I still love my little yard sale table. I am now always careful and use a ladder to change light bulbs.
